Durante la celebración de un concierto de metal en la discoteca Old Factory, al sur de Quito, uno de los asistentes lanzó una vengala, provocando un incendio que en pocos minutos devoró el lugar, dejando la cauda lamentable de 17 personas muertas y 35 heridas.
Dentro de las personas fallecidas se cuenta a José Antonio Barragán, uno de los pioneros de la música extrema Católica a nivel hispanoaméricano, Barragán que con su banda de un sólo hombre Flactorophhia exploraba los lugares más oscuros del underground, buscando esperanza, llevando una Luz en medio de las tinieblas, donde muy poca gente ha tenido las agallas para hacerlo, donde muchos sólo se han atrevido a criticar y censurar sin conprender ni mover un dedo.
Flactorophia se movía entre los sonidos más extremos del metal, como el Grindcore, Noise y Death brutal, dejando un legado musical, humano y espiritual que ha sido decisivo y de gran influencia para muchos que de una u otra forma buscamos nuevos medios de difusión de la Buena Nueva.
La herencia discográfica de Flactorophia se compone del disco “Redemption of the flesh” y la participación en diferentes splits de Grindcore como Drum Machine Compilation #3 (Einsteinium Records), Whorevisceration y six ways sin descomposition.
Barragán destacó en la escena under ecuatoriana, predicando más allá de las palabras, con su vida misma.
Las decisiones de Dios van mucho más allá de donde alcanzan nuestros limitados medios humanos.
Él sabe por qué dispuso llamarlo a su lado con tan sólo 26 años.
