Biografía
Hamara began in 2006 with long time friends Aaron Schug and Kent Johnson getting together to casually play guitar. Soon they discovered that they had great musical chemistry. Schug and Johnson soon heard about Josh Ruff's heavy vocals through his band Arch Angel. Schug decided to try out for Arch Angel and Ruff realized that there was greater potential with Schug and Johnson than with Arch Angel so they decided to begin a new venture. Luke Ruff, Josh's younger brother who was also in Arch Angel, was brought over to play drums. A quartet was formed with Schug and Johnson playing guitars, J. Ruff playing bass and providing vocals and L. Ruff playing drums.
After practicing a few times, Schug and Johnson felt that something was lacking in the band's sound. They realized that what they needed was keyboards. Johnson met Tony Molieri in a music theory class that they were both taking and asked him to try out. After the first practice, it was easy to see that the group had great chemistry and Hamara was born.
They began writing songs and practicing frequently getting prepared for their first show, a battle of the bands, put on by their high school called Jamfest. Hamara took first place and immediately began gaining a fanbase. When they graduated from high school, they entered the studio to record their self-titled debut album. After a summer of playing shows, the band faced a dilemma: college. Schug, Johnson, J. Ruff and Molieri were all going off to different colleges across the state while L. Ruff was still in high school.
After Schug joined the army, the band realized that the distance between everyone was making it impossible to progress. The band took hiatus for several years, using the time to advance their musical skills. During this period, L. Ruff graduated high school and decided to leave the band in order to play college football in Wyoming.
Schug returned from the army in 2010 and the band set out to find a new drummer. J. Ruff's college roommate suggested his little brother, 13-year old Mike Canon. After trying him out, Hamara realized that despite his age, they had found an exceptional talent.
Shortly after Canon joined, Hamara headed back to the studio to record three new tracks followed by several shows. Sadly, soon after, Canon made some bad decisions that landed himself in juvenile detention. Hamara was left without a drummer again.
Hamara again went on hiatus while they casually looked for a new drummer and continued to write. During this time, it was becoming apparent that Johnson was losing interest in the band. After many missed practices, the rest of the band realized that Johnson was no longer an asset and let him go.
For a short period, Ruff hopped on guitar, and Kenny was brought in to play bass. However, still drummer-less the band failed to progress further. Kenny started his own business and decided he did not have time for the band and so Schug, Ruff and Molieri were left looking for a new guitarist or bassist and a drummer.
In May of 2012, Ruff and Molieri graduated from college and redoubled efforts to put the band back together were made. After a long search, a mutual friend introduced Ruff to Josh Pease who after trying out, became Hamara's new drummer. Then, after trying out several guitarists, Pease suggested Austen Couch, a friend of a friend, who turned out to be just what Hamara needed.
Now after a long struggle, filled with many years of inactivity, Hamara is back sounding better than ever before.
