Theoservus from New Jersey

Theoservus is an epic, symphonic, melodic death metal solo project by me, Michael Venner, based in Phillipsburg New Jersey. The music is similar to bands like Wintersun, Ensiferum, Atavistia, Children of Bodom, Aephanamer and Eluveitie. The lyrical content is based on biblical themes and my christian faith.

Their EP Dragonslayers is epic/melodic death metal.

The musical styles across their album Erek and Ivor is inconsistent. It features many styles across its collection of songs including symphonic deathcore, black metal, folk metal, death metal, and progressive metal, amongst others.

Eventually band members moved to a more post-hardcore style, which eventually led to the disbanding of Vanguard as far as the name goes. The band is now more widely recognized and popular under their current name, which is Being as an Ocean where they perform post-hardcore/melodic hardcore music. 

Vanguard did a cover of Dark Lay Still´s song "White Blades Through Black Hearts."
